Pop-jazz singer Marilyn Maye began performing in the Kansas City jazz scene before she made her first national appearance on "The Steve Allen Show." That led to a recording contract with RCA in the 1960s that resulted in seven albums, including "Meet Marvelous Marilyn Maye," 'The Lamp Is Low" and "A Taste of Sherry!"
