Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, (born January 26, 1955) is an American musician, producer and songwriter. Considered to be one of the world's greatest guitarists and one of the most influential rock guitarists of the 20th century. Lodewijk reached NO.1 in the magazine "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time". Edward, commonly referred to as Eddie, got his middle name Lodewijk after the composer Ludwig van Beethoven, was born in Nijmegen, Netherlands in January 26, 1955 to a Dutch father (Jan) and an Indonesian mother (Eugina). The Dutch Roman Catholic Van Halen family moved to Pasadena, California from Holland in 1962. Halen achieved his distinctive sound using the EVH "Frankenstrat" guitar, a stock 100 watt Marshall amp, a Variac and effects such as an Echoplex, an MXR Flanger, an MXR Phase 90, EQ's, chorus and "wah".
