American actress Scarlett Johansson has formed a new all-girl pop group named The Singles with Este Haim, “bass face” master and the oldest Haim sister, who will play drums in the band. The rest of The Singles’ line-up includes musicians Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris and Julia Haltigan. Johansson describes the sound of the new band as “super-pop”, influenced by Grimes, The Bangles and The Go-Go’s.
The Singles have released their debut track “Candy” through Federal Prism, the label of TV On The Radio‘s Dave Sitek who also produced the single and worked with Johansson on her Tom Waits covers album back in 2008. Johansson’s previous musical endeavors also include a collaboration with musician Pete Yorn, which resulted in the album “Break Up”. Check out the single “Relator” from that album:
